What Frosted Crystal Singing Bowl Set Should I Buy?

What Frosted Crystal Singing Bowl Set Should I Buy?
Customers commonly call us asking for advice on which crystal bowl set they should purchase. Which set is the best? There are truly many options, and there is no one answer to this question. We all have our own ways in which we will use the bowls, and differ on what we like to listen to. You can use any bowl to work with any of the chakras, and any bowl to do any number of meditations.

Frosted bowl sets can be broken down generally into three categories…

#1) Harmonic Sets – This is just selling you the bowls from a 7, 8 or 9 bowl chakra set that are the most harmonic with each other. They come in sets of 2 to 5 bowls. If you would like, you can start with a harmonic set, and add the remaining bowls to make a full 7, 8 or 9 bowl set later. You can hear all of the harmonic set choices by going to our Harmonic Chord Crystal Bowl Sets category.

#2) 7, 8 or 9 Bowl Chakra Sets – A 7, 8 or 9 bowl set plays the major scale, “Do – Re – Mi – Fa – So – La – Ti – Do”. The 7 bowl set excludes the final “Do”. The 9 bowl set adds an additional lower harmonic. These sets have been used paired with the 7 major chakras, though can as well be used with the 8th chakra above the head, and the earth chakra below the tail bone with the 9 bowl set. You can hear these sets by going to our Frosted Quartz Crystal Singing Bowl Sets

#3) Minor Pentatonic Sets – These are 6 bowl sets that the minor pentatonic scale. Evidence suggests the minor pentatonic scale, which has been used all over the world by different cultures, is more ancient than the major scale, and has a more energetically grounding effect than the elevation of the major scale. You can hear these sets by going our Minor Pentatonic Scale Frosted Crystal Bowl Sets.

We do think there are a few things that do matter when purchasing singing bowl sets….

#1) Precise tuning is better.

If you would like to buy crystal bowls that sound good together, you need to make sure your bowls are precisely tuned together.

For example, the notes of C and G, when played together, sound beautiful. However, if you get a C that is tuned flat, and a G that is tuned sharp, they will sound a little bit dissonant from each other. They won’t be in line, and you will hear that difference.

Another common occurrence is that you buy a full 7 bowl set, but the B bowl is 18 inches, and the C is actually a C#, and you then don’t get the correct incremental progression of Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So-La-Ti. Understanding musical tuning and crystal bowl sizes can be a difficult hurdle for many people when purchasing crystal singing bowls. We are here to help.

We provide resources to learn the simple concepts of musical tuning, cent value, octaves and bowl sizes. Please review our purchasing guide, and let us know if you have any questions.

Julie and Dorothy check each bowl that leaves our warehouse to ensure it plays well, and it plays accurately. A purchase with us you can make assured you will receive a quality product, that sounds great.

#2) Figure out what you like the hear. With each frosted bowl set we offer, we also offer sound files so you can hear what the set will sound like. Spend the time to listen to sound files of the different options. If you look online, at different places, you may start to get a firm belief that you need to get a certain set, a certain way, and if you don’t you won’t get the full potential of crystal singing bowls. But please consider truly what you like to listen to. Your ears will tell you what is right.

Perhaps you discover from this process you don’t want just a 7 bowl set, but really like the additional bowls that come in the 8 or 9 bowl set. Or you discover that you really like the sound of the minor pentatonic sets, or are happy with just starting with a harmonic set. Any set can be used in any chakra meditation, or any meditation in general. You are not limited in your ability to work meditatively by your crystal bowl selection. Figure out what you like to listen to, and what you want to play.

#3) Consider your audience, and your method. If you are playing bowls for yourself, consider how you plan on playing them. Will you just be sitting in your living room with a few bowls in front of you doing a simple meditation? Or, will you be wanting to create a whole symphony of sound, and want 8-9 bowls around you?

If you are playing bowls for others just consider your method, and how the bowls can support. We lead customers in intensive meditations, exploring and manipulating conscious experience, where the sounds of the frosted bowls are supports. In our meditations we just use simple harmonies, using 2-3 bowls, and the meditation can go on from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the method. Just creating the uplifted harmonic environment as the backdrop of the meditation is enough.

However, if you plan on having clients just listen to the sound of the bowls as the object of the meditation, like in a sound bath, then perhaps it could support people to have multiple tones. It can support people to have 6-8 bowls to help them keep attention focused. If you are doing classic chakra meditations, it can support clients to have a single bowl associated with each chakra, to help them locate their chakra and also to help them keep attention.

There is no one size fits all set for each person, as we all are doing different meditations under different circumstances. Simply ask what will support you, or what will support your clients with the method you are using. Trust yourself.
