The Shakuhachi is the traditional instrument of the Fuke School of Buddhism in Japan. It takes a very distinct and practiced embrochure to play the Shakuhachi, which allows the instrument to give off a wide array of tones when plays, from clear and precise notes, to fast leaps in octaves. The instrument is traditionally a meditative flute, though has as well been used in music. The instrument plays the minor pentatonic scale. The Shakuhachi is a deep passion of our flute maker's Zacciah, who still makes them in his workshop.
