Tuning forks have long been used in the field of sound therapy because of their simplicity and effectiveness. There are many systems of use with the forks, from simple intuitive application or auditory resonance, to skilled application according to the principles of Eastern elemental medicine. Our 8 tone tuning fork set offers a practitioner multiple options: 1) This completes the musical scale, which lends a wholeness or completion to the listening experience that 7 tone fork sets do not provide. For example, with 8 forks, you can transition from the fundamental C note to the harmonic octave with the high C. With 8 forks there is much more possibility for harmonics then with 7. 2) For those using these for chakra alignment, it provides an 8th tone for the 8th chakra, an important energy and consciousness center above the crown of the head, associated with one’s unique and highest ‘individuated consciousness,’ or highest aspects of the greater Self. (More information will be offered in instructional materials with these sets.)
This 8 fork set is in the 3rd octave, tuned to 432hz. Typically a "chakra set" or set of 7 forks is in the higher 4th octave. We have designed this to be in the 3rd octave because, in general, people find the 3rd octave to be more relaxing and easier to listen to. There is a greater richness to these tones below the 4th octave.
Because the forks are in the 3rd octave, there are as well binaurals when used specific forks together. So not only do you get the major harmonics, and the major scale progression of Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So-La-Ti-Do, but you as well get binaurals you can use with your patients or yourself. Some of the binaurals are listed below:
3rd octave C – 3rd octave D = 15hz beta
3rd octave D – 3rd octave E = 18hz beta
3rd octave E – 3rd octave F = 10hz alpha
3rd octave F – 3rd octave G = 21hz beta
3rd octave G – 3rd octave A = 23hz beta
Fundamentally, forks are either weighted or unweighted. Weighted forks tend to bring the sound vibration of the fork more deeply and directly into body tissue, so are applied directly to points on the body where the practitioner wishes to utilize the resonance of the fork. Unweighted forks tend to resonate louder, so are easier to hear, and thus apply ‘auditorily,’ but do not carry the vibration into body tissue as well as the weighted forks. Sunreed has chosen the weighted forks, because we believe the application directly to the body deepens the experience for the recipient. The forks can be heard and used as auditory – only tools, also.
