This gong set brings together a full and accessible way to begin working with gong—combining instrument, stand, and a range of mallets that support different approaches to sound.

It offers both simplicity and range, allowing the relationship with the gong to develop over time.

A Complete and Ready System

This set includes everything needed to begin. The gong, stand, and mallets are selected to work together—supporting both basic striking and more varied ways of interacting with the instrument. Rather than building a setup piece by piece, this provides a cohesive starting point with room to explore.

Choosing the Gong

You may select between two distinct styles:

Chau Gong
A traditional form with a central “bullseye.” The tone begins with a clear and stable fundamental, and gradually builds into a fuller, shimmering field of sound. The coherence of the tone remains present as it expands.

Wind Gong
A flat, polished surface with a more immediate response. The sound opens quickly into a wider range of overtones, with a deeper fundamental underneath. The character is more dynamic, shifting rapidly as it develops.

Each offers a different way of entering into the sound—one more gradual, the other more immediate.

Working with a Full Range of Sound

The included mallets provide multiple ways of interacting with the gong.

The Dragonfly Fuzzbucket is our top choice for getting the deepest note from the gong. It also includes a pair of yellow gong rollers. These are used to hit the gong quickly and continuously, so that you are able to control the intensity of the gong well. Last, the package includes three types of friction mallets, which produce a high whale tone, and lower whale tone, and a low rumbling tone. In total, this package offers basically every mallet a person would need or want.

The gong itself is sized to balance portability and depth—large enough to develop a full tone, while still manageable to move and position.

Material & Form

The gong mounts on a C-stand, allowing it to hang freely and resonate fully.

Each mallet is designed for a specific type of interaction—whether softer activation, continuous rolling, or friction-based sound. Together, they provide a wide range of tonal possibilities without requiring complexity.
