Playing Tips and Caring for Your Crystal Bowl
To play your bowl....gently strike the outside rim of the bowl one time using the suede striker. Then slowly run the striker around the outside rim, holding firmly as the resonance begins to build and until the desired vibration is reached. This is called "singing" the bowl. When you sing the bowl, try to keep the striker a parallel to the outside of the bowl as possible. The greater the angle of the striker in relationship to the side of the bowl the harder you will have to sing the bowl. It is best to play the bowl slowly with the striker. Playing the bowl slowly will give you greater control and allow you to produce sound more readily. You may play in any direction. Removing the striker will allow the bowl to sustain, meaning it will continue resonating as you tune in and enjoy the energy.
Proper care and cleaning can help keep your bowls beautiful! To clean: use distilled water with or without a 10% solution of a mild detergent. You may apply this solution with a soft brush to the outside surface. Rinse with clear water and dry with a blow dryer. To clear your bowls: you may use clear water, a gentle solution of slat water, incense, essential oils, or even sunlight or moonlight to help clear your bowls of excess energy.
Some precautions...do not place a person's head inside or too near a crystal bowl while you are playing it. A safe distance is about 12" away. No medical claims are made about the use of crystal bowls to replace the need for medical advice. If you experience any health problems you should always consult your regular physician or health care practitioner. Do not expose your bowl to extreme temperatures. Do not play your bowl in extreme temperatures. If you are playing more than one bowl at a time, place them at least 12" apart or the intense vibrations may shatter them.
