Hokema kalimbas are very high quality, made in Germany, out of cherrywood. There is a sincere level of craftsmanship in these instruments.
Kalimbas, are finger pianos. They create bright, bell/chime metal tones, that are clear, and beautiful. They can sound similar to a wind chime, though one that you play with your fingers.
This Kalimba, is in the A minor scale.
With sound work, kalimbas are wonderful to tone with. A simple technique is just to pick out a simple melody or rhythm just playing 2-3 of the tines that are harmonic with each other, and the toning with them. It is easy to connect the voice, with the quality of tone of this instrument.
This Kalimba is electric. You can plug it into an amplifier, to get much louder tone out of it. So it is a good instrument to consider for a sound bath. You can pluck a single tine, and it is like a beautiful chime that sustains. You can play the kalimba very slowly, and melodiously, allowing there to be space for beautiful chime like tones, and also allowing for silence and space.
We are selling this with an optional miniature amp. This is a small, inexpensive mini amp, called Honeytone. It can clip onto your belt loop, so you can actually walk around the room with the amp and the kalimba as you play. The amp is battery operated. We are selling the amp with a small 5 foot 1/4" jack cable to connect the amp to the kalimba.
