There is a lot that we like about this tubular chime set from Meinl's Sonic Energy collection, compared to others.
The whole set is designed as a travel set. The stand is easily taken apart and put together without screws. The whole set packs up into a single travel bag, included with the purchase (see pictures).
The tubular bells are a little bit thicker, and wider than other tubular chimes. This leads to a clearer, richer tonality, with slightly longer sustains.
The chime can sustain 15-20 and longer.
The tubes are 432hz tuned in the key of C 7 note tube set with notes C D E F G A B.
The set comes with three extra wooden handles, so you can hold and play just a single chime at a time, around a room. You can even swing the bells in this way, and create an effect like a swinging bar chime.
In a quiet room, the tubes are easily heard. This would be an excellent tool for a sound bath, having the participants quietly lying down around the room, and then playing slow harmonic sequencing, allowing participants to both enjoy the harmony, but also the space in between the notes.
The strikers that come for free do work well, though we would suggest upgrading to this mallet for the best sound quality.
