Large Wood Singing Bowl Striker #PW2L

Regular price $11.98

Natural contact. Clear tone.

These carved wooden strikers offer a direct and responsive way to work with Himalayan singing bowls—especially for rim singing and drawing out higher harmonics.

Simple in form, they provide a clear point of contact between hand, wood, and bowl.

A Direct and Grounded Sound

Made from natural, unfinished mango wood, these strikers create a clean and immediate connection with the rim of the bowl.

The surface is smooth but not sealed, allowing just enough friction for consistent rim singing. This makes it easier to sustain a steady tone without slipping, while still maintaining control.

The sound that emerges is clear and focused—often bringing forward the brighter, higher harmonics within the bowl.

Working with Rim Singing

These strikers are particularly well suited for rim singing.

The natural wood surface allows for a steady grip on the bowl’s edge, supporting a continuous tone as the striker moves around the rim. Compared to varnished finishes, the unfinished wood offers a more stable and responsive feel.

They can also be used for striking—producing a lighter, more defined attack that reveals upper tonal layers.

Variations in Size and Feel

Each size offers a slightly different way of working with the bowl:

Regular (#PW2S)
A compact and balanced option that is easy to control. Well suited for smaller bowls and for developing consistency in rim singing.

Medium (#PW2M / #PW2Mb)
A slightly wider surface offers more contact with the bowl, supporting a steady and stable tone. Works well across a range of smaller to mid-sized bowls, and is especially comfortable for extended use.

Large (#PW2L)
A broader and longer striker that provides increased contact and presence. While still effective for smaller bowls, it offers a fuller feel in the hand and a more grounded motion when working around the rim.

Use in Practice

These strikers can be approached simply.

In practice, they support:

  • Developing a steady rim-singing technique
  • Bringing forward higher harmonics within the bowl
  • Refining sensitivity to pressure and speed
  • Establishing a consistent relationship with the tone

Over time, the movement becomes more continuous, and the sound begins to stabilize with less effort.

Material & Craft

Each striker is handcrafted from mango wood and may vary slightly in size and grain.
Mango wood is a dense hardwood with a multi-pattern grain, offering both durability and a balanced weight. It is also a more sustainable material—harvested from trees that have completed their fruit-bearing life, allowing the wood to be repurposed rather than burned.

The carved handle and smooth playing surface reflect a traditional approach found in

Tibetan and Nepali singing bowl tools—simple, functional, and made for long-term use.
