These bowls were inspired by a simple practice.

One of our teachers, Dorothy Stone, keeps a singing bowl in her garden—resting in the soil among the plants. In the mornings, she will often step outside and play the bowl, letting the tone move through the space as the garden begins its day.

Over time, this became a way of being with the garden, not just tending to it, but listening and participating in its atmosphere.

Garden bowls are offered in that same spirit. They invite a relationship with sound that is less about technique and more about presence, stepping outside, sounding the bowl, and allowing the tone to move through the natural environment.

There is a long-standing understanding, both in tradition and in observation, that plants respond to attention, sound, and care. Whether or not we try to define that, the experience of sounding a bowl in a garden often brings a sense of connection—both to the space and to oneself within it.

On the Bowls

These bowls are repurposed from our collection.

They may have a small chip along the rim or may not respond easily to rim playing with a standard striker. Because of this, they are not included in our primary bowl sets.

However, when played with the included rubber ball mallet, they produce a clear, resonant tone that is well-suited for outdoor use and simple striking.

Their character is often slightly more raw or open, something that tends to sit naturally in an outdoor setting.

Additional Details
Each bowl includes an o-ring and a rubber ball mallet for easy playing. Natural variations in appearance and tone are part of the character of these bowls.
