These remarkable clay flutes are handmade by José Mendoza in Teotihuacan, Mexico, using forms and imagery inspired by Aztec culture. These are works of art. Each flute has its own voice and personality, inviting a way of playing that is less about performing music and more about exploring our connection to place and the elements.

A Spirit of Elemental Exploration

These flutes embody something we deeply appreciate about working with sound: curiosity, playfulness, and discovery. The flutes are fun. They are not designed around the familiar structure of a European musical scale. Instead, each flute invites you to explore its individual voice, following the breath and discovering the sounds that naturally emerge.

There is a wonderful sense of place within them as well. The flutes invite you to feel into the nature around you, the air, the trees, the ground, and sing with the place you are in.

Use in Practice

Begin with a breath and allow yourself to explore. Play long tones, short calls and simply discover what the instrument wants to do. There is no need to find the "right" notes. Playing this flutes is a discovery of where we are.

In meditation, ceremony, or a sound bath, these flutes can offer a moment of connection—to breath, to the elements, to place, or to whatever intention you are holding. Their voices can also be used simply to send a thoughtful prayer outward into the world.

Above all, we encourage you to have fun with them. Listen, explore, and allow the unexpected sounds to become part of the practice.

At Sunreed™, we take great care in preparing each instrument before it leaves our shop. Many of the instruments we offer are handmade or individually selected, and each one is carefully inspected, listened to, and packed so it arrives safely and ready for practice.

Products typically ship the next business day with FedEx or USPS and should arrive within 3 to 7 business days within the US. International shipments may take up to 4 weeks.
