Large Dark Grey Felt Singing Bowl Striker Mallet #F1LGr
Soft strike. Grounded tone.
These dark grey felt mallets offer a steady and responsive way to work with Himalayan singing bowls and gongs—supporting both subtle tones and deeper resonance through a softened point of contact.
With a balance of weight and felt density, they allow the sound to build gradually rather than emerge through sharp impact.
A Softened and Stable Contact
Each mallet features a firm yet forgiving felt head. The contact softens the initial strike while still allowing a full range of tone to develop. This creates a more rounded sound—whether working with higher harmonics or deeper, grounding frequencies.
The handles are crafted from finished beech wood, offering durability and a stable, balanced grip. Over time, this supports greater control of volume and expression through subtle changes in movement.
Working with Deeper Tone
These mallets are especially suited for bowls and gongs where a fuller, more developed sound is desired.
The felt surface allows the tone to open gradually, encouraging a more continuous and grounded resonance rather than a sharp attack. As the size increases, the depth and presence of the sound becomes more pronounced.
Variations in Size and Feel
Large (#F1LGr)
A balanced and versatile option with a broad felt surface. It supports both soft high tones and fuller low tones across mid-sized bowls, particularly in the 10”–14” range. It also works well for larger gongs where a controlled, steady strike is needed.
Extra Large (#F1XLGr)
A heavier mallet designed for deeper activation. The increased felt size and added weight allow lower frequencies to emerge more fully—especially in larger bowls (14” and above) and large gongs. The sound tends to build gradually, creating a more grounded and expansive presence.
Use in Practice
These mallets can be approached simply.
In practice, they support:
- Allowing tones to build gradually
- Working with a softer, less percussive strike
- Exploring deeper resonance in larger instruments
- Developing sensitivity to weight and contact
With the added weight of the larger sizes, less effort is required to bring the instrument into vibration. The sound begins to emerge through the contact itself.
Material & Construction
Each mallet is handcrafted and may vary slightly in size and feel.
The handles are made from slow-growing beech wood, chosen for its durability and stable grain. The felt heads are constructed from layered grey wool, offering a consistent and responsive contact with reduced percussiveness.
Each piece is designed for steady, repeated use, with a focus on balance and ease of interaction.
