Medium Heavy Bolted Felt Singing Bowl Striker Mallet #F1Mb
Deep tone. Grounded contact.
These weight-balanced bolted strikers are designed for working with deeper tones—especially in larger Himalayan singing bowls and gongs.
Each offers a steady, controlled way to enter into sound, with enough weight to bring out fuller resonance while remaining responsive in the hand.
A Balanced and Responsive Contact
The felt head is firm yet forgiving.
It meets the surface of the bowl or gong with a softened contact—reducing harsh attack while allowing the tone to open gradually. The added brass bolt increases density within the head, creating a more grounded and stable point of contact.
This added weight supports deeper activation without requiring force. The handle, shaped from finished beech wood, offers a stable grip with a consistent feel. Over time, this allows for more refined control of both volume and tone.
Working with Larger Instruments
These strikers are particularly suited for:
- Larger Himalayan singing bowls (14” and above)
- Grounding bowls with deeper tonal ranges
- Medium to large gongs requiring fuller activation
The added weight and felt density allow lower frequencies to emerge more clearly.
Rather than producing a sharp strike, the sound tends to build—revealing a fuller, more rounded voice.
Variations in Size and Feel
Both options share the same weight and overall construction, with subtle differences in balance and proportion.
Large Heavy Bolted (#F1Lb)
A slightly more compact design with a shorter handle and fuller felt head. This creates a grounded, close-contact feel with steady control.
Medium Heavy Bolted (#F1Mb)
A slightly longer handle with a subtly smaller felt head. This offers a touch more reach and a slightly lighter sense of balance while maintaining depth.
Each variation offers a slightly different way of working with the same tonal range.
Use in Practice
These strikers can be approached simply.
In practice, they support:
- Drawing out deeper, lower tones
- Working with sustained resonance
- Developing sensitivity to contact and pressure
- Allowing sound to build gradually rather than striking sharply
Over time, you may find that the weight of the striker begins to do more of the work—allowing attention to settle into the listening itself.
Material & Construction
Each striker is handcrafted and may vary slightly in size and feel.
The handles are made from slow-growing beech wood, chosen for its durability and stable grain. The felt heads are constructed from layered white wool, offering a softer and less percussive contact.
A brass bolt is embedded within each head, adding weight and density for increased responsiveness and tonal depth.
