Hokema kalimbas are finely crafted in Germany from solid cherrywood, offering a warm, resonant body and a clear, bell-like tone.

Each instrument reflects a high level of craftsmanship—balanced in the hands, responsive to touch, and consistent in sound.

A Clear and Melodic Voice

Kalimbas—often called finger pianos—produce bright, chime-like tones when the metal tines are gently plucked.

The sound is clean and sustained, with a light, musical quality that can resemble a softly played wind chime—yet with the added ability to shape melody and rhythm directly with your fingers.

Each tuning is arranged so the notes naturally harmonize, making it easy to create flowing and coherent sound.

A Practice-Centered Approach

This is an intuitive and accessible instrument.

You can begin by playing just a few tines, allowing simple patterns or melodies to emerge. Even minimal playing creates a sense of harmony.

In sound work, the kalimba pairs naturally with the voice—matching tone, following pitch, or gently layering sound. Its clarity makes it easy to connect with, both as a player and listener.

Tine Variations

Each model offers a different number of tines.

Fewer tines create a more minimal and spacious experience, while more tines expand melodic range and flexibility. All versions maintain a balanced and harmonious tone.
