The pan flute offers a simple and direct way to explore melody through breath. Each note is played by blowing across the top of a pipe, similar to blowing across the top of a glass bottle, without the need for finger holes or complex technique.
This makes the instrument immediately approachable. There is very little to learn in order to begin, allowing you to focus on listening, breath, and the movement of sound.
This pan flute is tuned to an E minor pentatonic scale across 14 pipes, providing a wide and forgiving range of notes. The pentatonic tuning allows tones to blend easily together, making it possible to explore freely without concern for playing “wrong” notes.
In practice, the instrument supports a relaxed and intuitive style of playing, where attention can remain with the breath and the unfolding of melody.
