Product Description:

This is a flute that can go by different names - overtone flute, harmonic flute, abuelos or grandfather flute. The flute has been called the grandfather flute, for being played by Andean elders in communication with spirits. This is one of the oldest flute style in the world. It has no finger holes which makes it very simple to play. The flute is played by blowing harder or softer into the whistle end. This causes the flute to play harmonic overtones. In our experience 5 overtone notes are possible with this particular flute.

The overtone series is a beautiful example of the patterns of nature, and how we hear and see those patterns with joyful wonder. If you blow this flute softly, you will get a pure fundamental C note. Let's say for example here, that C note is 260hz. If you blow the flute a little harder, you will get a tone 2 times that hz value at 520hz. Blow harder and you will get 3 times that hz value at 780hz. This is the overtone sequence, where each higher note is a hz value in simple mathematical relationship to the fundamental. Our ears literally hear the harmony of the simple mathematical proportion.

It is wonderous to just play this flute, and sink your attention into the vibrous tone. You can meander intuitively amongst the different harmonic tones, each sounding beautiful with each other, and just rest in the consistent tone. Or you can play out a wonderous intention or prayer.
