The Andean Quena is the most traditional flute of the Andean regions of South America. It has the ability to soar magestically, carrying with it the voice of an entire culture, an entire region, and of the land itself. The quena is our craftsman most cherished offering and a large inspiration for him to become a flute maker. The strength of the quena is its versatility and voice; tuned to play chromatically in the G major scale, it has the ability to play in 3 full octaves. It plays easily in the keys of Em, Am, and Cmaj. While many quenas that are manufactured in bulk today are made from hardwood, the typical material used in the Andes is bamboo, and the large majority of professional quena players continue to use bamboo for its tone. This quena is handcrafted from the highest quality Tonkin Bamboo.
Comes with a handmade flute bag to protect it from the elements. Please note that case material/design may vary based on availability.
Professional Tuning: Professional tuning means that you will receive a flute that with be tuned to A440 standard pitch through two octaves. Please note, that flutes play sharper and flatter depending upon the embouchure and the strength of the individual's playing.
Flutes For Small Hands: The Quena in the key of G is generally a smaller flute that can be played by adults with smaller hands.
Light vs. Dark Finish: Light finished flutes are finished with a non-toxic all natural oil to protect the wood and give it an excellent shine. Dark finished flutes are burnt to give them a dark complexion.
